Well, the final round of the 2005 Irish Clubmans has taken place.
Glenn Walker was out in the pre-97 class aboard a Honda CBR600 which belongs to Scott Lonsdale as the Yamaha R6 had not been rebuilt after the crash at Bishopscourt the weekend before.
So first practice, Glenn just wanted to get the feel for the bike, although he still managed to lap pretty quick, he wasn't happy with a few things, so inbetween the sessions adjustments were made to the machine to suit Glenn and the track. These seemed to pay off as after the second practice Glenn was 11th on the grid, and to think he only sat on the bike that morning.
Race One and a ok start, off and around lap one he was chasing down Damien Horgan on Glenn's pre-97 championship winning bike from 2004. By lap two he was right on his wheel tracks a good move around the back and he was through. Glenn had his head down and he managed to pick of another few riders before the flag, he had just managed to catch Nigel Hunt when the chequered flag came out and I say if the was another lap or two Glenn would have had a good hard stab at the 6th place, but it was a 7th place finish, which by any standards is a good result and then with it only being his first race on the bike it was a great result.
Race Two and a better start, managing to get past Horgan again then he picked off another few riders, Maxwell came into his sights and Glenn started to chase him down, a good clean pass and on through he went. Glenn managed to finish 8th in Race 2, he was pleased with his results with all things considers.
With his top 7 result in race one Glenn was invitied to race in the final race of the day, the Presidents Cup. A offer to ride Damien Horgans CBR600 was accepted and the team rushed about to tell the timekeepers about the change in transponder number and machine number. Adjustments were made to the gear shift pattern to suit Glenn. So the race was started a good start, but then Glenn started to drop back a wee bit, on lap 3 he came in, it was found that the gear selecter was sticking in a few places, more rushing about for the team, got it sorted. Glenn was sent down to the dummy grid to find a 5 minute delay for riders to refuel. So it gave Glenn and the team time to check and tweak the problem and managed to get it sorted.
Glenn was totaly on it in this race and he managed to finish 5th, just 2 hundredths off 4th place.
So thats the season over for another year, Glenn finished 4th in the Supersport 600 class! He and the team would like to thank all the organisers, flag marshalls, medics, competitors and spectators for making another great season.
Thanks also to everyone who has helped and supported Glenn in whatever why over the season, and also Scott for the loan of the bike.
Glenn Walker Racing will be at the Sunflower!
